Liquid detonation safety device / explanation

Detonation: An explosion in which the flame propagates at supersonic speed. Deflagration = explosion in which the flame propagates at subsonic speed. If explosive gas ignites in a container or pipe, a deflagration (explosion) is triggered. When a flame front travels through a pipe, the flame speed increases with the pipe length. Up to a certain pipe length/pipe inner diameter ratio, the flame propagates at subsonic speed. Beyond this length, the flame accelerates from subsonic to supersonic speed. To stop a flame propagation at supersonic speed, flame arresters are required and tested as detonation tube arresters. In liquid detonation protection, the liquid product is used as a flame arrestor. If the supply line to the storage tank is not constantly filled with product, a flammable mixture can accumulate. In the event of ignition, the liquid detonation safety device stops the developing flame at the end of the filling line. The distance between the ignition source and the liquid detonation safety device is unlimited.
